1858 Erected by MARGARET SOUTAR in memory of her husband JAMES SCOTT Wine merchant West Port Dundee who died 28th April 1856 aged 59 also their daughter Lilias who died 6th March 1824 in infancy, daughter Lilias Wighton spouse to JAMES MacKENZIE ESQ Merchant Glasgow died 31st July 1853 Aged 27 years.
Sacred to The memory of WILLIAM SCOTT, Hilltown Dundee died 8th Aug 1843 his spouse LILLIAS WIGHTON died 12th May 1814 their son WILLIAM died 3rd July 1816 their daughter ISABELLA died 14th June 1820

1858 July 29. Permission granted this day by the Town Council to Mrs Margaret Souter or Scott relict of the late James Scott, merchant, West Port, to erect a monument instead of a headstone; and she having paid £5.5/- on 4th Decr 1858 a receipt was granted for the same having that the permission was without prejudice to the rights of other parties.
