1857 Erected By HUGH GALLOWAY mariner In memory of his father HUGH GALLOWAY shipmaster Dundee who died at sea on the 18th Oct 1854 aged 50 years also as a filial relic for GEORGE GALLOWAY Cooper Dundee who died on the 12th Oct 1833 aged 64 years and ISABELLA YOUNG his wife who died on the 8th Jan 1852 aged 84 years also their son ALEXANDER GALLOWAY Glover who died on the 23rd May 1852 aged 40 years Sacred Above text in brackets, The Book of the Howff, ©Libraries, Leisure and Culture Dundee, Local History Centre & is reproduced with kind permission.

Dundee 30th March 1857, permission granted by Hospital Master and factor / as authorised by Hospital Committee/ per minute of 23 Feby 1857 / to Hugh Galloway mariner, son of the late Hugh Galloway, mariner, to remove old stone and replace it by another.
